2022 Barbera

A transparent, glowing garnet-colored wine swirls in the glass leading you to think that the wine is light-hearted and fun. When you dip your nose into the glass, you might be surprised by the rich, deep notes that come to you first: roasted coffee grounds and earthy moss, campfire embers and tobacco. A dark sweet fig fruit aromatic lurks in the background and a toasted pecan note brings a maple-like, sweet and savory quality.
 
For all the seriousness of the aromas of the wine, one taste and you are right back to fun and flirty. Immediately, a hint of sweetness explodes in your mouth. The fruit comes forward as sweet plum and jammy berries. The texture is at once silky and rough, with the medium tannins providing that rugged texture. The acid in the wine is balanced out by the light sweetness and the finish brings the dichotomy home again with aspects of both sweet fruit and toasted oak.
